| Problem:
Customer ‘M’ needed to increase their Air Freight volumes
in the period in question by over 300%. This demand for volume was
an extraordinary request, not just for Uniserve but also within
the industry, especially as the peak period for Customer ‘M’
coincided with the peak period for air cargo.
Solution:
Uniserve negotiated a preferential deal, chartered fifteen Antinov
124’s (the world's largest commercial aircraft) and implemented
a management process throughout the supply chain on behalf of Customer
‘M’ for this project.
Each week over 100 suppliers from Southern China were co-ordinated
to fulfil the demand.
The aircraft were operated from Macau/Hong Kong gateway direct into
Uniserve’s unique ground handling-operation at Stansted.
Uniserve commissioned and built unique ULD’s (unit load devices),
designed to fit into both the Antinov and for direct loading onto
UK delivery vehicles. Full utilisation of the chartered space was
achieved through optimisation of onboard maximum capacity.
All ULD’s were smart-loaded at origin against the client's
Purchase Order, allowing goods to be received in the UK and delivered
directly to the main DC, with an option to go directly into the
client's stores and ensuring the quickest turnaround available (4
hours from arrival to warehouse was actually achieved)
Results:
• 72 hour in-store availability
of garments.
• Increased profitability by
fulfilling and satisfying demand instantly.
• Cost reduction in the clients
own distribution channels.
• Customer ‘M’
recorded pre-tax profits of £53M in 2005.
